Shoebox Appeal

Employees of The Resort Group are showing that actions speak louder than words by contributing to our big shoebox appeal – delivering Christmas gifts to the children of Cape Verde.

Each year, The Resort Group is proud to host a Christmas charity event in Dunas for the children of Cape Verde. Normally, we donate Christmas gifts to the children out of our own funds raised throughout the year. This year, however, we are allocating these funds to much bigger long term projects, including buying much needed items such as nursery and school equipment, toys and educational items – amongst many more welcome donations which you can see listed below.

It’s time for something new

So this year we are running a Christmas Shoebox Appeal with contributions from employees of The Resort Group.

We’re looking to create 300+ Christmas shoeboxes, with a minimum value of £10 each. We are asking each shoebox to include a mix of Christmas presents, including small gifts such as a cuddly toy or toy car, summer hats and sunglasses, small games like Connect4 or cards that can be played in any language, draw-string school bags, colouring books and arts & crafts materials.

Christmas in a box

Our idea is to literally deliver ‘Christmas in a box’ to families in need at Christmas time. For many children, this could be the only Christmas present they receive, so we’re hoping to receive some really great shoeboxes.

We’ll be distributing the Christmas shoeboxes to the children at our annual Christmas party event where Santa will deliver all our gifts. Be sure to look out for updates we’ll be sharing on social media at the end of December.

If you’d like to donate a Christmas shoebox of your own, just follow the simple instructions below:

Creating your Christmas Shoebox

We have set a minimum £10 budget per shoebox. Remember your shoebox will be travelling overseas and children will not receive their gift until Christmas so please do not put any perishable foods or any item that will leak or melt.

Please supply unisex gifts appropriate for children aged 7 – 11 years old. Also ensure that your boxes are wrapped with the lid separately so they can be easily opened. This is due to customs issues and we do not any of the parcels being ripped open unnecessarily by customs. Also for this reason, please attach a note of the contents on top of the box which can easily be removed without damage.

Most importantly – please include a Christmas message in your box. The message should include:

• Your name
• Your Christmas message
• If you want to put your contact details on the note, then feel free as the child may be able to send you a letter to say thanks!

The deadline for all UK boxes to be given to the organisers is Friday 14th November. The reason for this is that we need to get all boxes sent to Cape Verde so we need to allow plenty of time to get them shipped.

For European donations please send to our Gibraltar office. The deadline for this is the Friday 30th October.
