Another year, another amazing Christmas party for children of Cape Verde. The Cape Verde annual Christmas party took place on Friday 15th December with many local schools involved in the festivities.

The special event began at 3:30pm with balloons offered to each child and the team from MELIÃ Dunas Beach Resort & Spa painting the children’s faces while offering them complimentary drinks. To the delight of the guests, the party had an enormous cake with The Cape Verde Foundation’s logo on the top.

There were 358 children at the event, as well as several VIP guests, including the Mayor of Sal, Mr. Júlio Lopes; City Councillor for Administration, Finance and Heritage Tourism and Economic Development, Mrs. Carla Carvalhal; City Councillor for Youth, Sports, Education and HR, Mr. Euclides Rosário and the Representative of ICCA (The Cape Verdean Institute of Children and Teenagers) in Sal, Mrs. Queila Soares. When everyone was ready and gathered together in the Resort’s huge amphitheatre, the audience were treated to an impressive dance to the sounds of some classic Christmas music and a welcome from Mr. Rob Jarrett. After which, ambassador of the Foundation, Shanika Ocean, made a beautiful speech while food and drinks were offered to all the children and guests. The animation team from the Resort then gave a thrilling performance of a special Peter Pan production that was enjoyed by all.

The children were then treated to a special visit from Santa Claus himself and received gifts that have been kindly donated by our supporters from across the UK and Europe. The Minister of Education in Sal, Márcia Graça, attended the event alongside the many teachers who are responsible for the young students. The event was also covered by local TV and reporters, which you can now view online.

With 2017’s party a great success, we look forward to next year’s fundraising fun as well as continuing to support the community. If you would like more information about the Foundation’s work, get in touch with the team today.
